Job Purpose
The Business Development Manager is responsible for driving the growth of the organization's renewable energy and sustainable fuels portfolio by identifying, evaluating, developing, and commercializing strategic business opportunities. The role leads projects and initiatives from opportunity origination through investment approval and execution, while establishing strong relationships with customers, partners, investors, suppliers, and other key stakeholders.
The position requires a strong understanding of renewable energy markets, industry trends, regulatory developments, and commercial structures. The Business Development Manager will play a key role in shaping market strategies, securing strategic partnerships, negotiating commercial agreements, supporting project development, and ensuring opportunities are aligned with the company's long-term growth objectives and value creation strategy. This role will also represent the company at industry forums and maintain market intelligence to identify emerging opportunities and competitive advantages.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
Business Development & Commercial Management
- Lead the identification, evaluation, development and commercialization of new business opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
- Develop business cases, value propositions and commercial strategies to support project development and investment decisions.
- Structure, negotiate and support execution of commercial agreements, including partnerships, MoUs, supply agreements and offtake contracts.
- Support the company's growth strategy through opportunity origination, partnership development and market expansion initiatives.
Stakeholder & Partnership Management
- Identify, engage and develop relationships with customers, investors, renewable power developers, utility companies, CO₂ suppliers and other strategic partners.
- Serve as the primary commercial interface with external stakeholders throughout project development and execution.
- Build and maintain a strong network of industry relationships to support long-term business growth.
Investment & Project Development
- Lead internal approval processes, including preparation of business cases, investment papers, presentations, risk assessments and recommendations for management review.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to evaluate project feasibility, commercial viability and development risks.
- Drive assigned initiatives from opportunity assessment through execution while ensuring alignment with business objectives and project timelines.
- Work closely with Technology Development, Project Execution, Engineering, Commercial and other functional teams to support project delivery.
- Translate market intelligence and stakeholder feedback into actionable recommendations that strengthen commercial and project outcomes.
Market Intelligence & Strategy
- Monitor renewable energy, sustainable fuels, green electricity and carbon markets, including policy, regulatory and competitive developments.
- Represent EcoCeres at industry conferences, forums and networking events to identify emerging opportunities and market trends.
- Develop market insights and growth strategies aligned with the company's commercial and investment objectives.
- Identify new business opportunities and assess their commercial viability.
Qualifications & Requirements
The successful candidate is expected to have the following experience and competencies:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business, Engineering, Finance, Economics, Energy Management, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 8 to 10 years of experience in business development, commercial management, project development, or a related role within renewable energy (preferred) or power sectors.
- Strong understanding of the commercial, technical, financial, and regulatory aspects of renewable energy projects and markets.
- Proven ability to originate, evaluate, and develop business opportunities, including formulating business cases and supporting investment decisions.
- Strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills, with experience in managing partnerships, commercial agreements, and strategic collaborations.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with customers, partners, investors, and regulatory authorities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, with the ability to prepare analytical reports and presentations.
- Self-driven and results-oriented, with the flexibility to travel frequently and fluency in spoken and written English.
- Native Mandarin and fluent English.
- Approximately 50% business travel required.
